About Us
For the better part of seventy years, the area that is now known as the Stone Creek Golf Community was operated as a purebred cattle ranch by H. Young Tillman, Jr. When clients would come to purchase cattle, they would often remark, "This would make a great golf course!" Now that dream has become a reality, and we have to agree, it's a great golf course.
Winding in a figure eight fashion through over 700 acres of pristine woodlands and gently rolling meadows, the Stone Creek course is a semi-private eighteen-hole championship course that plays 6707 total yards.
Unlike most golf courses found in South Georgia, Stone Creek is unique as each hole has a character all it's own. From the Scottish links look of the twelfth fairway to the third hole par five that plays over the old beaver pond, new surprises and challenges await the golfer on each tee at Stone Creek.
Stone Creek opened in October 1992; many first time players of the course are shocked to learn of its relative youth after playing on such lush fairways and well kept greens.
One of the difficulties in designing a golf course is making it great for everyone. The expert wants a challenge, others don't want to work too hard, and young golfers need to be encouraged. We hope that by providing four sets of tees, well defined fairways, and generous greens we've created a great golfing experience for everyone.
A large part of our investment in the golf course has been in three critical areas that are hard to correct if not done properly to begin with:
GREENS - Our greens are shaped to drain water and hold your approach shot. With the drain tile embedded in a four inch blanket of river rock, drainage is not a problem. No indigenous soils were used in the construction of the putting surface and all materials used were carefully monitored to insure that the speed of each green is about the same.
DRAINAGE - For maintenance and for play, this is one of the most important considerations in building a golf course. To compliment this drainage system, we have installed approximately five miles of cart paths. Because of "new fill" that has yet settled and not wanting to disturb the root structure of our trees, we have chosen to use lime rock instead of asphalt in some areas. Eventually, these areas will be paved with asphalt.
IRRIGATION SYSTEM - Our system is designed to put an inch of water on the entire course in seven to eight hours. This is imperative to maintaining a quality golf course.
We hope that you enjoy the fairness and playability of our efforts.

Mark Tillman-General Manager A resident Stone Creek and grew up in Valdosta and have spent most of my life the life of a small town. Growing up I spent much of my time working and enjoying the Family Farm. This family farm is now known as Stone Creek Golf Community which the family developed in 1992 with an 18 hole golf course, pool, tennis, and over 600 homes. After the initial development of Stone Creek I was involved with a hospitality development company where the hotel chain was grown from 3 properties to 150 when I left in 2004. I was involved in new construction, management, acquisitions, information technology and Revenue Management. Moving the family back to the Lowndes area in 2004 was an easy decision. No where else is there such a strong sense of community, family, and morality than the South Georgia area from my experience. I have been Back at Stone as General Manager since 2008 and look forward to serving you. |
